Workshop & Talks

Sharing knowledge and experience in the field of design is an important part of what we do as a studio. We also offer workshop programs on different topics. Below an impression of a 5-day upcycling workshop at ECAL MA product design, Lausanne (CH). In the context of a two-year research program on the aesthetics of sustainability, MA product design students worked for 5 days on the topic of upcycling: transforming or reinventing an otherwise disposable item into something of higher value without destroying it. During four ‘transformation sessions’ the students were challenged to add as much value as possible to disposable or disposed products by different actions like combining, adding, removing, molding, cutting, folding and changing context. Parallel to this process they had to explore the commercial potential of each product by creating a business model. The goal of the workshop was to explore the fundamentals that determine value, to learn seeing products as material and/or components to discover the potential of upcycling businesses.
