For the French high fashion luxury goods manufacturer Hermès, Studio Mieke Meijer was commissioned to design the concept and the visual identity for an instore workshop showcasing the construction of the Kelly bag, one the most iconic Hermès products. The architectural approach of the studio turned out to be a good fit as the Kelly is considered a piece of architecture in itself.
The objective of the workshop is a recreational, inspiring and enriching experience in which participants discover the beauty and intensity of the leather craft.

Studio Mieke Meijer designed and produced a welcoming and informal setting with a round table in the center. The artisan shares this table with the participants, creating a sense of intimacy and focus.

The table is surrounded by a circular configuration of cabinets. The opening of the doors of the cabinets simultaneously closes of the space thus creating a sense of privacy. At the same time the twelve steps of the construction of the Kelly are being revealed to the participants.

During the 2 hour workshop an artisan demonstrates all of the steps. While the participants observe the artisan, the narrator explains the ins and outs of the artisan’s gestures, from the inspection of the skin to the final check on the finished bag. The participants also get to touch and feel the leather and even get the opportunity to try saddle stitching, the stitch on which the brand's reputation is based and which cannot be replicated by a machine.

The first ‘Bagstage’ event took place in the Hermès store in Athens, Greece, during the first week of November 2019 and will travel from store to store.
